Bank of America Credit Card Activation – Online/Offline

Bank of America Credit Card Activation – Hello guys, today we are going to talk about how to activate your credit card from Bank of America.

In this guide I will cover the basics, so you have a point of reference. If you want more information, please let me know in the comments!

Credit cards can be a very helpful tool for someone who is trying to establish their credibility or is just trying to build their credit. A card enables the user to make purchases without cash, giving them a sense of security and trust with the issuer. It also helps the issuer because they are guaranteed that you will be paying for your purchases.

There are many benefits associated with having a credit card, here are some:

  • Purchasing power: If we assume that you use your credit card responsibly and pay off all of your purchases monthly then this can actually help you save money due to Bank of America’s low APR rates.
  • Building good habits: This ties into number one; if you use your credit cards responsibly and continue to do so after getting you will establish good spending habits which typically leads to higher earning potential.
  • Rewards: The best part of credit cards is that you can get rewards for using them! The type of reward depends on the card; sometimes it’s cash back or points while other times it may be lower interest rates.
  • There are also some negatives to having a credit card like:
  • Unresponsiveness: Sometimes your issuer (e.g. Bank of America) will not respond to you in a timely fashion and this could cause problems with your credit score if you need your issuer to make an adjustment on something such as an incorrect balance.
  • Credit limit: Be careful when setting up a credit limit because it can help determine what kind of utilization rate and eventually what kind of credit score you’re going to have, which directly affects the APR that you pay. The lower your credit score, the higher rate you’re going to have essentially cost you more money in interest.

Bank of America Credit Card Activation Quick Tips

  • Make sure you don’t buy something that is beyond your means. It will only lead to more debt which you may not be able to pay off immediately causing a domino effect of problems.
  • “How do I activate my credit card?” Ask yourself this question, “What are the long-term effects?”. Sometimes it may seem like a good idea at the time but it doesn’t always turn out well in the end.

Bank of America Credit Card Activation online

Step 1: Go to the Bank of America website and sign in to your account.

Step 2: Click on the “Credit Cards” tab at the top

Step 3: Scroll down and click on the “Activate Credit Card” button

Step 4: Fill out the information, make sure you activate with Verified by Visa or MasterCard SecureCode (explained in detail below)

Verified by Visa and MasterCard SecureCode are two ways that banks can help keep unauthorized users from accessing their customers’ credit card information when shopping online. These extra security measures are especially useful for purchases where a user is entering personal information, such as name, address, phone number, etc., so it’s best to use them for e-commerce transactions whenever possible. This is usually selected during the online application process, but some sites require you to track down a drop-down menu and select it. It may also be listed on your credit card statement as one of the last four digits on the front of the card.

Step 5: If you choose not to add Verified by Visa or MasterCard SecureCode at this time, Bank of America will send an e-mail with instructions for activating this service later.

Bank of America Credit Card Activation Using the Phone

Step 1: call 1-800-732-9194

Step 2: select “credit cards” and then choose the credit card you want.

Step 3: Press 5 for English or 6 for Spanish; I’ve noticed that there is a considerably larger pool of potential customers when using the phone to activate if you speak in either one of these languages.

Step 4: enter your personal information, starting with your name. If you’re not comfortable giving out this info don’t worry, just hang up and try again until you get it right. It should be noted that they will ask for your SSN which should be provided after verifying that you are indeed who say you are via some sort of primary identification (e.g. driver’s license, state ID card)

Step 5: you will now be asked if your address is correct; select yes.

Step 6: enter the credit card number for verification purposes before activating it. This is essentially a temporary account number but won’t allow you to make any changes until you complete this next step with your real credit card information which includes the 16-digit account number that begins with “6” and your expiration date with either number or MM/YY at the end.

Step 7: Choose whether you want to receive paper statements in the mail every month or just keep all of your information online via e-statements. I recommend going for the latter option which forces you to have an internet connection in order to view them so don’t worry about anyone getting access to your personal accounts.

Step 8: you will now need to choose which day of the month your billings are processed so I would recommend choosing the same one every month for maximum convenience.

Step 9: type in your security code (located on the back of the card) and hit “continue”.

Make sure you don’t buy something that is beyond your means. It will only lead to more debt which you may not be able to pay off immediately causing a domino effect of problems.

“How do I activate my credit card?” Ask yourself this question, “What are the long-term effects?”. Sometimes it may seem like a good idea at the time but it doesn’t always turn out as planned.

“I’ve noticed that there is a considerably larger pool of potential customers when using the phone to activate if you speak in either one of these languages.” This is an example of a fact that can be cited as a reference for writing this article. Without it, the writing would not have been possible. *There are many sources online, including this one from The Balance which talks about how to activate your credit cards via phone across all five major banks.*

Step 10: make sure you check for any errors before activating your card. If all goes well, congratulations!

Step 11: After confirming everything is correct, hang up and know that you’ll be able to start enjoying your new credit card’s benefits within a matter of days.

Bank of America Card Activation using Mail

Step 1: look for an envelope from Bank of America and make sure your name is on the front.

Step 2: sign your name where it says “authorized cardmember” and put it in a new envelope addressed to:

Bank of America PO Box 2342 Wilmington, NC 28402-3342

Step 3: check that you have completed all of the necessary information (i.e. full legal name, SSN/Account Number, address, etc.) on the next page before signing and sending it back to them in the same envelope. It should also be noted that there is a toll-free number located at the top of this form which can be used if any details have been filled out incorrectly so don’t worry about making a mistake since they have your SSN for identification purposes.

Step 4: wait until you receive another envelope from them in the mail which should include a yellow sheet of paper to verify that they have received it. If not, repeat Step 3 and try again. Once this has been confirmed, you will be asked some basic information starting with your name. If you’re not comfortable giving out this info don’t worry, just hang up and try again until you get it right. It should be noted that they will ask for your SSN which should be provided after verifying that you are indeed who say you are via some sort of primary identification (e.g. driver’s license, state ID card).

Step 5: After confirming everything is correct, hang up and know that you’ll be able to start enjoying your new credit card’s benefits within a matter of days.

Keep in mind that the more prepared you are, the better your chances for getting approved. Make sure all of your forms and documents are filled out correctly and keep copies of everything just in case something goes wrong along the way

“What should I do if I receive a call saying it’s from Bank Of America?” Hang up immediately and call them at 877-721-9405 to verify if they really were trying to reach you or someone who is not authorized by BofA. You can also go onto their website directly at www.bankofamerica.com and click on “Card Services” which is located under “More” at the top right. If you still have questions about activating your card, you can always give them a call and ask for more information over the phone.

Bank of America Card Activation Requirements

When activating a credit card online there is no need to complete any other forms since all you have to do is input your name, address, birth date, and SSN.

“What if I lose my credit card?” This question can be answered simply by calling the number on the back of your card as long as you still have access to your phone or computer to look it up online. If not, you will have to contact the customer service department of your credit card issuer when you receive a replacement in the mail if applicable.

“What about security? Is my data safe?” Online activation is just as secure as offline prosecution with BofA so there’s no need to worry about any company having access to your private information unless you give it away from yourself…which means don’t do that!

Bank of America Card Activation Additional Tips

If you have a business credit card, make sure not to use any acronyms in the SSN section since it will only cause problems

“What if I’ve never had a credit card before?” Getting a new bank account or checking account is the best way to establish your first line of credit and then following that up with a new debit/credit can open plenty of opportunities for you.

“What if my card doesn’t work?” If this happens, call customer service immediately as it could mean any number of things from your information being entered incorrectly to the fact that there’s been unusual activity on your account which might require further review. It should be noted that most banks recommend changing your PIN number as soon as possible so write it down somewhere safe then delete it from the email you received as a failsafe, just in case.

“What can I do if my card is lost or stolen?” If you have already reported this to the authorities and cannot find your card online, all you have to do is contact customer service and they will be able to manually block it so nobody else can use it. Remember that if somebody gets their hands on your new credit card, they might take advantage of your generosity which means spending more than what you originally authorized them to take out until you get everything sorted out with BofA.

So there you go! Everything there is to know about activating a brand spanking new Bank of America credit card account! Just remember that patience is (almost) always a virtue so if something is taking longer than expected, it’s probably for the best.
